Pee Wee Football
Pee Wee football is often a youngsters first involvement
with organized football. Even at this time the early
buddings of athletic prowess may be visible in these
kiddie bopers.

Often, as these kiddies run down the field their helmets
bounce  like bobble-head dolls, all to the delight of their
proud beaming mothers and fathers. It's at this stage
that future athletes flourish under the guidance of a
patient and wise coach.

It's moments like these that parents often cherish most
because it's also at this point the kids say and do the
"cutest" things. Games are played with a cadre of
coaches on the field within arms reach and boo-boo's
often go away by the time little Johnnie is cradled and
carried to the side line.

Yes, these are the future " Good Old Days "

Coming Into Their Own
Winning is a wonderful thing. A lot of hard work and effort goes into accomplishing that goal. Yet there are many other
achievements and victories along the way. If a coach can help develop or even enhance the life lessons which a young athlete
learns, he has done a good thing. If he can build confidence and persistence under pressure in a young athlete, then the young
men he coaches benefit immensely.

We watched two teams receive a great lesson in this over the weekend. The varsity Teaneck Junior Football Program hosted
Paterson’s Mustangs at Teaneck High School.  Both teams really showed up to play and this proved especially true as the game
wore on. It was amazing to see that by the second half both teams were becoming more confident with each play. In the 3rd
quarter when  Paterson turned up the intensity Teaneck quickly matched them and then cranked up their level of play to surpass
Paterson’s. This back and forth struggle continued on until the last moments.  Confirmation of the matched intensity was
ultimately seen in the final score, 21-21.
Unfortunately league rules do not allow for overtime, though both teams were certainly primed to push onto victory. They each
earned a tie on their season record, something which could come back to help or hurt them depending on how the rest of the
season shakes out. Regardless, of how things pan out, there’s one thing that we know for sure. Both teams may have started this
game a little unsure of themselves to one degree or another but they both certainly left the game more confident and sure of who
they were on the gridiron. No doubt about it something happened to these teams during the span of those four quarters,
something which does not bode well for future opponents: They came into their own!

Usually when you hear talk about Montclair football, the thought of Montclair’s High school
team is what comes to mind. Now, we know those blue Mounties usually play the type of
rigorous football that gives them a good grab at a championship ring.
Last weekend Teaneck’s Junior Highwaymen traveled down to Montclair to face off against Montclair’s Cobras. So you can believe we loved
getting an opportunity to see the one of the Junior League organizations which supply the talented Mounty  High school team.  While the Jr
Highwaymen have handed out their fair share of defeats to opponents this season, the Cobras were more than a match for the blue & grey
challengers at the three games we covered.

Last year’s slug-fest against the East Orange Jaguars continues to be one of the best
high school games we've ever covered. In fact Montclair played such good ball last
season they earned a trip to
Giants Stadium .

. The Cobras  who have a 42 year history, run a solid organization from the ground up and it’s undoubtedly seen on the field at all playing
levels. There’s no wavering about the fact that these youngsters have more than a solid grasp on the game’s fundamentals as shown by
their high school counterparts, they even show some of the same flare and flamboyance !

All in all, great stuff to build solid ball players with!
